Otto and Edith Frank: The Early Life of Anne Frank’s Parents in Germany (1925) | ANNFRANKSTORY

Edith Frank with Anne

Last updated: November 5, 2025

After their wedding in 1925, Anne Frank's parents, Otto and Edith Frank, began their life together in the city of Frankfurt, Germany.  Their family grew quickly. Beautiful Margot Frank was born in 1926, followed by the intelligent Anne Frank in 1929.

For several years, life for the Frank family was peaceful and hopeful, just like other families. Otto managed a company in the banking and trading industry, while Edith cared for their two daughters.
The family enjoyed music, books, and time with friends, a warm and loving home that reflected many middle-class Jewish families in Germany during that time.

But as the 1930s began, the situation in Germany changed dramatically, and sadly.

The economic crisis and the rise of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party brought growing discrimination and fear to everyone. Anti-Jewish propaganda and laws started spreading, and everyday life became more dangerous for Jewish families like the Franks.

Otto and Edith could sense what was coming. Deeply worried about their future and their children’s safety, they began looking for a way to escape Germany and start again somewhere safer. This difficult decision would eventually lead them to the Netherlands. A move that would dangerously change the course of their family’s story forever.
